Travel Guide: Whidbey Island, Washington
Are you looking for a quick weekend getaway near Seattle? One of our favorite places to go when we need a bit of time to rest and recharge is Whidbey Island. We consider Whidbey Island as one of the best staycation spots near Seattle, only two hours away from the city (including ferry time).
In our opinion, there is no bad time to go to Whidbey Island. It’s beautiful rain or shine! We recently were chatting with a good friend who was planning to visit Whidbey Island and wanted to provide a quick itinerary of our favorite things to do. That leads us to our newest guide which we want to share with you. Save for your next adventure to Whidbey Island, Washington.
Where to Explore
(Saturday’s Only – Seasonal) Bayview Farmer’s Market
We are a fan of Farmer’s Markets in general, and love going to the Bayview Farmer’s Market when in season. There are vendors for food, sweets, crafts and more. You MUST-TRY Whidbey Sweets-n-tarts as we continue to dream about their raspberry tarts and chocolate desserts.
Wineries
Did you know Whidbey Island has it’s own winery scene throughout the island? We love visiting Spoiled Dog Winery for a quaint indoor or outdoor wine tasting experience. We always end up going home with a bottle of their Columbia Valley Chardonnay.
Downtown Langley
Langley seems to be one the larger towns on Whidbey Island and is a fun spot to spend a couple hours exploring small businesses and local shops like edit., South Whidbey Commons and more.
Where to Get Some Exercise
Ebey’s Landing
My all time favorite hike in Whidbey Island. Ebey’s Landing is a great spot where can hike and also explore the state park portion and have lunch on the beach.
Fort Casey
Located near Coupeville, Fort Casey is a historical and beautiful park very original to Washington. We’ve spent entire evenings hanging out at the park, playing games with friends and enjoying picnics with a view. We recommend heading over during the day time because it can get spooky at night.
Deception Pass
At the very top of Whidbey Island, you can visit Deception Pass Bridge. It is a beautiful view of the water and also has a few hikes around the area. We typically will pack a lunch and spend the early afternoon hanging out by the water and take a view laps on the bridge to get an amazing view of the water.
Where to Grab a Bite to Eat
Cafe in the Woods
Cafe in the Woods has been a go-to spot for us for brunch or even lunch. It’s part of Mukilteo Roasters and also serves tasty food. This spot can be a bit out of the way depending on where you are staying but it’s worth it.
The Braeburn Restaurant
We enjoy heading to Braeburn when we’re in the Langley area for their good food and comforting vibe. Recommended for brunch or lunch!
Rocket Taco
By now you must know we’re fans of tacos… so obviously we had to share a fun taco spot on Whidbey Island. Rocket Taco is a quick bite to eat when you’re in the mood for some fusion tacos.
Have you been to any of these places on Whidbey Island? What are your favorite spots or hidden gems?
