Travel Guide – Staycations: Seattle, Washington

Looking for a Seattle staycation idea?! As we’re approaching the one-year mark of the pandemic, we wanted to share with you a few ideas for safe and socially distanced staycations or weekend getaways in Seattle, Washington. We feel grateful that our work allows us to work remotely and keep us on the road, however we know many of you may still be in Seattle.

Even back home, there are plenty of opportunities to travel within driving distance of your own city if you look hard enough. We are sharing five places you can treat as a “staycation” and less than an hour or two drive from the city of Seattle. We hope you can visit one of these spots and rest and recharge!

1-Night Seattle Staycations

1. Bothell, WA (25 minutes from Seattle)

If you want to get away but can’t go far, look no further than… Bothell! Bothell has done an amazing job with outdoor seating options during the pandemic. We recommend checking out The Bine for happy hour food and drinks. An easy evening or weekday outing!

2. Tacoma, WA (45 minutes from Seattle)

Without commuting traffic, Tacoma is a short 45-minute drive from Downtown Seattle. In the summer months, you can check out Point Ruston Farmer’s Market! We love hanging at Dash Point State Park to get more of an oceanside vibe, away from the busyness of downtown.

Weekend Seattle staycations

3. Kingston, WA (1.5 hours from Seattle including ferry time)

Visit the Port Gamble General Store near Kingston, WA

We love Kingston and the surrounding towns including Poulsbo, Port Ludlow and Port Gamble. Recently, we took the ferry trip to explore the small neighborhoods which was about a half-day trip. Rain or shine, you’ll love walking around the quaint, small towns.

4. Bellingham, WA (1.5 hours from Seattle)

Taylor Shellfish Farms in Bellingham, WA

If you want to do a one-night stay or have more of a full-day outing, we love heading to Bellingham. A spot for great hiking, beer, and local eats. Our favorite is Taylor Shellfish Farms where you can shuck your own oysters and with a view of the water.

5. Whidbey Island, WA (2 hours from Seattle, including 30 minutes onboard the ferry)

Ebey's Landing at Whidbey Island

Another ferry ride destination, Whidbey Island, is one of our favorite spots to rest and recharge. Check out the town of Langley or the unique Cafe in the Woods, for brunch and lunch. Hiking at Ebey’s Landing is beautiful and perfect for a sunny day. Factor in driving and ferry time, and you just might realize it may be worth renting an Airbnb for an extra day or two of fun.
