Hi friends –
It’s 2022! Wishing you all a very happy new year abundant with new experiences, adventure, growth, and prosperity ahead! We closed out 2021 escaping a brutal Seattle snowstorm (by the skin of our teeth) to fly out to NYC and spend the new year with Midori’s dad. A trip to NYC brings out an oft-forgotten part of you… for us, it reminded us how much we love the hustle of a big city. So naturally, we hopped from one metropolis to another to kick off the year.
Today’s newsletter comes to you from the dizzying, aroma-filled, cultural streets of Mexico City (actually, the quiet comfort of our Airbnb… but the point is, we’re back!)
🏙️ First, a taste of the ‘New York state of mind’ through our favorite media ~
- A real treat – Midori discovered this one en route to NYC aboard the flight (she really is a New Yorker at heart!). Check out Tick, Tick… BOOM! on Netflix, an incredible chronicle of Jonathan Larson’s artistic hustle in NYC seeking his big break with a stage-ready musical. For those who don’t recognize the name, Larson ultimately became a legend when his famed musical, Rent, hit Broadway just after his abrupt passing in 1996. Lin Manuel Miranda (!) directed this one and it. will. inspire.
- Another Midori recommendation – check out Cat Marnell’s memoir, How to Murder Your Life, as she retraces her wild (and we mean crazy wild) New York days as a fledgling magazine editor. Busy days at the office consistently followed by ominous, substance-fueled nights out are the name of the game. If dark, quirky humor is your thing, this one will be a surefire few hours of entertainment!
🛒 A few purchases we’ve been patting ourselves on the back for ~
- While in NY, we stumbled upon a Four Sigmatic shop that was closing down that day and everything was 50% off. If you know this brand and their amazing mushroom-powered (the legal kind) products, you’ll know this was a crazy deal. So I stocked up on some Adaptogen Coffee Travel Packs which have been awesome for travel days – double the punch with a fraction of the caffeine!
- Special thanks to @ng.phoebe for these awesome Airglo flex travel stands. The flexible flaps, despite their simplicity, have been wildly useful during travel to keep our devices upright and secure. They’re actually designed by a flight attendant and their utility is off the charts!
We know it’s that time of year to look ahead, set goals, celebrate the year behind us, and start building forward momentum for 2022. As a Capricorn duo, trust us when we say that’s worth celebrating! But amidst the whirlwind January can be, we hope you all will take some time for yourselves to recharge, reorient, and move forward with purpose.
Onwards and upwards – here’s to a gangbusters year ahead Thank you, always!
