Coming to you this week from πŸ“ Zihuatanejo, MX

If you’re not already subscribed to our newsletter, we invite you to do so here so you never miss an update!

Hola friends –

How are those ‘new year, new you’ promises you made to yourself going? πŸ™‚ We, for one, have slipped a bit… A dizzying spell of stomach issues (see: Montezuma’s Revenge) and time zone changes have led to more than a few lazy recovery days. Alas, we’re far from perfect. And as they say, we can always start again!

Unlike the last WITW in Mexico City, we pulled a 180 and are now chasing the sun in beautiful Zihuatanejo, MX. For anyone unfamiliar, watch the last few minutes of The Shawshank Redemption and you’ll get a taste of the mesmerizingly beautiful scenery and lifestyle here. So with all the tropical beach vibes we can muster, let’s dive in!

✍️ A few new publications from us, inspired by recent events ~

  • Nothing inspires reflections on lessons learned like getting sick on the road. We know many of you are reconsidering plans due to the surge of Omicron COVID cases. For those looking to take some extra precautions during travel, check out our tips for traveling during COVID, 2022 edition.
  • And no matter how much we prepare, illness happens. However mild or severe, being away from home and feeling ill is scary/uncomfortable. So in the rare case you find yourself not feeling your best while traveling, we’d like to share what getting sick while traveling has taught us for next time (hopefully this saves you some pain in the future!)

πŸ’‘ A quick favor to ask: We’d love your REFERRALS! Check out the bottom of this email for your unique link to refer friends you think would enjoy our newsletter (and win prizes for your help!). Help us double our subscriber count by March 2022 and make two Capricorns very happy – thanks for your support!

πŸ“– Books we’ll be devouring on the beach this week ~

  • I’ll be revisiting one of my favorites, When Breath Becomes Air, this week. It’s a beautiful memoir of Paul Kalanithi’s journey as a neurosurgeon, new father, and terminal cancer patient. It’s full of wisdom and is a work of art. I distinctly remember weeping on the plane when I first finished this book a few years ago.
  • Midori is in the middle of reading Essentialism, a business/productivity classic reminding us of the power of doing less to do more. For any of you looking to get more meaningful work done this year whilst avoiding the burnout that comes with ‘being more productive,’ this is a great read.

πŸ™‹β€β™‚οΈ Two shameless plugs for our side projects ~

  • For anyone unfamiliar, Midori runs an awesome Etsy shop where she sells digital prints she’s designed over the past two years. These make for slick decor (when printed and framed), phone backgrounds, or fun digital mementos for any occasion. She’s running a 25% off sale – check it out!
  • Meanwhile, I’ve been diving deep into all things Web3, blockchain, DAOs, and crypto. I’m trying to ‘learn in public’ by synthesizing and publishing what I learn as simply as I can on my personal website/newsletter. If this piques your interest, I’d love for you to subscribe and follow along – and HMU if you wanna talk shop!

As our time in Mexico quickly comes to a close, we fully intend to end on a high note (plz remember to check out the referrals link at the bottom of this e-mail to help!).

You, our fellow travel + digital nomad aficionados, I’m sure are aiming for the same. So on that note, we wish you all the momentum in the world to end January 2022 on a high. It’s going to be the best year yet!
