Newsletter Update
Hola friends –
Just when we thought it was time to rest and embrace a stretch of several weeks to focus on our income and healthā¦ I (Akaash) got sick. And if I tell you how, youāll laughā¦
Long story short, we walked into a fresh seafood market here in Gran Canaria and I was ecstatic about the abundance of fresh (and cheap!) seafood available. I proceeded to impulse-buy a half-kilo of fresh sardines (so fresh, they werenāt even cleaned yet) which I thoroughly enjoyed for nearly every meal over the next 2 days. Too good to be true? Yes. Lessons learned? 4 days of diarrhea and 6 pounds of lost body weight later, you bet your a$$:Ā
1 – Regardless of how excited you are, always clean your fish. No matter how thoroughly youāre going to cook them, rinse the fish under cold water first.Ā
2 – Specifically when dealing with sardines, turns out how you store fresh sardines in the fridge mattersā¦ Sardines that you donāt store ON ICE in the fridge (which I, of course, did not) will actually release histamine and cause the fish to make you sick when eventually eaten. As I now know all too well, this is called scombroid poisoning ā a very common, albeit painful form of fish-bourne food poisoning. Blaaah!!Ā
Sardines and I are on a long-term relationship break and my mother, grandmother, and aunties will be happy to know that Iām finally trying to āfatten myself up a bitā to recover from this š
Anyways, back to regularly scheduled programmingā¦

āļø Two blog posts from us ~
- As part of our month-long sprint through Europe, one city that Midori and I continue to reminisce about our time in is Prague. Itās an incredible place that is still less trafficked by tourists than other major European cities. So to get you started, check out our 48-hour guide for a trip to Prague, Czechia, and share in our love of this amazing place. We canāt wait to go back!
- For nostalgiaās sake, hereās an oldie from the last time I got sick while in Mexico City. Getting sick sucks, but itās not the end of the world. Especially while traveling, a few key lessons can help you reclaim your health and get back on the road ASAP. Turns out you CAN teach an old dog new tricks (me!)Ā

š± One quick set of mobile phone hacksĀ ~
- Even as a non-iPhone user myself, this thread made my jaw drop. As if the first tweet isnāt enticing enough, let me just say that scrolling through these iPhone hacks reminded me, even as a die-hard Android fan, why Apple remains the queen of design + UX:
- BONUS: A more inclusive hack for Android users like me feeling the FOMO, Iāve been loving using WhatsApp as a personal notepad/quick file storage tool – useful and clever!

š§ One podcast for those still on the FIRE journey with us ~
- BiggerPockets Money brought the heat again. This episode shares the story of a young woman who built a modest cash-flowing real estate empire with a clear objective in mind: freedom. Her story is relatable, approachable, and inspiring above all else. Needless to say, the FIRE fire has been relit under our butts!!
Ā
Thatās a wrap! The next edition of our newsletter will come from a new country that we are SO excited to visit. Until then, wish us luck repairing our guts and reclaiming our health š
š Keep your vibe chill and your fresh sardines even chiller,
Akaash (& Midori)
