Coming to you this week from Atlanta, GA

Hi friends –
On the heels of Juneteenth becoming a formal, nationally recognized holiday (π) it was SO COOL to be in Atlanta this past weekend. Amidst the city’s incredible cultural and ethnic diversity, we witnessed an insanely cool Juneteenth parade downtown and spent the afternoon at Atlanta’s National Center for Civil and Human Rights (where, interestingly enough, some of Dr. MLK’s original handwritten papers are currently featured).Β
Making the quick weekend trip to Atlanta from our current ‘home base’ in Austin keeps us appreciative of what a nomadic life can enable! So what else is new? Let’s dive in…Β
β‘ No new blog posts, but how about some highlights?
- Besides the Juneteenth festivities, Atlanta had a lot to offer. Check out our Instagram highlights and some related gems: the World of Coca Cola (a tourist trap, yet absolutely worth it to appreciate how American capitalism can turn sugar water into a $300b behemoth) and Krog Street Market (a hipster market abundant with local food and beer, coincidentally steps away from Dr. MLK’s childhood home)
- Nothing new, but a friendly reminder. Did you know that all of our past ‘Where in the World Wednesday’ newsletters are archived on our website? Check em’ out to trace the journey from the beginning!Β

π₯ Some new health hacks we’ve been experimenting with
- Generally, Midori and I try to eat well and exercise regularly. When we move fast from one destination to the next, though, keeping up with the demands of our jobs along the way, we need nutritional insurance. We love Orgain’s Superfood + Immunity Up Powder (not sponsored, but I wish!) to at least get a few servings of vegetables, fruits, and prebiotic ingredients into our bodies. Even on the worst days (think: fast food for every meal), this helps us cover our bases.
- This one is sure to raise some eyebrows. Ever heard of mouth-taping? Apparently, sleeping with your mouth open (even accidentally) is to blame for a lot of poor sleep, bacteria exposure (causing illness), and overall poor respiratory health. I struggle with getting good deep sleep, but putting a little piece of medical tape on my mouth (combined with a BreatheRight strip to really open up the nose!) has changed the game! Mouth closed all night + clean, oxygen-rich breathing = surprisingly restful sleep all night long! Highly encourage trying this one for yourselves!Β

π Insight we’ve gleaned from an unlikely source
- If you’ve ever tried to read an Eckhart Tolle book, you may feel spectacularly unenlightened, struggling to understand the depth of his spiritual teachings. Luckily, Oprah feels the same way but did something about it. In her new podcast series, she sits down with Tolle himself and goes through his most popular book, A New Earth, one chapter at a time.
- Each episode breaks down the key teachings through conversation. Best of all, layman readers (like us!) call in every episode to ask Oprah and Eckhart to map the teachings to instances in their lives. It’s really well done, has taught us a lot about presence, and leaves us wanting more. Plus, who doesn’t love a multi-part Oprah interview! Huge thanks to our friend Greg Ginsburg (in Bend) and my parents for this awesome recommendation.Β
Writing these newsletters continues to be such a fun way to share a bit about our lives with you all. We appreciate your patronage and would love to hear from you! What do you like? What do you want to see less of? Your feedback makes us better.
β¨ For the first time ever but certainly not the last, wishing everyone a happy (belated) Juneteenth,
Akaash (& Midori)
