So you want to become a digital nomad? Or maybe you know someone who is interested in the digital nomad lifestyle?

Whether it’s the allure of travel, working from anywhere, or being in control of your own time, becoming a digital nomad is a lifestyle change that can may seem far fetched.

About a year ago, my partner and I worked to take the initial steps in becoming digital nomads. We we’re intrigued by the idea of being location independent and quickly sold 80% of our belongings, began experimenting with online business ideas and hit the road.

With the holiday season right around the corner, we’ve created a list of the top books the digital nomad in your life will love.

4-Hour Workweek by Tim Ferriss

This was the gateway book for us into the digital nomad lifestyle. Imagine living a life where a business can still run without you working directly in the business! In addition to real-life examples on how to tactically create a location independent lifestyle, the 4-Hour Workweek has additional points about mindset and overall makes a great case for why you should work towards optimizing your life and daily habits.

Vagabonding by Rolf Potts

A top reason many people pursue a digital nomad lifestyle is to maximize travel. Vagabonding by Rolf Potts is the original “digital nomad” bible which helps you learn the difference of being a traveler vs. a tourist and living a unconventional life.

Forever Nomad by Tynan

In a similar fashion, Forever Nomad is a short read but hits all the points of what it will be like to be a full-time nomad, why cruising is the ultimate trip for working (and we agree!), how and why to make Las Vegas your home base and more. Also, the packing list is a great outline to get you started on how to be a minimal nomad.

Rich Dad’s Cashflow Quadrant: Guide to Financial Freedom by Robert Kiyosaki

Akaash and I are interested in living a digital nomad life as part of our path to financial freedom. Part of our end goal is to ultimately move from a employee to a business owner. Cashflow Quadrant is the blueprint of how to move between worker quadrants, excellent advice and tips on how to build a business and a path towards financial freedom. Tip: if you haven’t read Robert Kiyosaki’s first book, Rich Dad, Poor Dad start there.

Digital Minimalism by Cal Newport

One of the main avenues of work for digital nomads is freelancing, content creation and what a lot of people would consider laptop work. With so much time behind a screen, it can be important to detox and also enjoy the moment of how you’re spending your time. Digital Minimalism peels the curtain back on how addicted we can become to social media and being connected and how you can achieve greater balance in life.

The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up by Marie Kondo

Nomads move around frequently, so it’s not easy to be carrying a lot of possessions. When we travel we have a carry on suitcase and backpack each no matter how long the destination. Before we left on our nomadic journey, we used the principles in The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up to downsize and really only keep belongings that sparked joy.

The Laptop Millionaire by Mark Anastasi

Learn how to run a million dollar business just from your laptop with The Laptop Millionaire. Mark Anastasi outlines a variety of ways you can start a million dollar business just from your laptop with practical and tactical marketing and sales methods. This is a great book to get you to start thinking about a scalable business without having any ties to one specific location.
